Concerns Raised Over UK Abortion Law Changes
Anti-abortion activist Lyla Rose has expressed her alarm following a recent decision by the House of Lords to decriminalize abortion in the UK up to the point of birth. She argues that this change doesn’t truly reflect what the public thinks.
This new provision was integrated into a larger criminal justice bill, which allowed it to pass through less scrutiny while significantly widening access to abortion, according to Rose.
“So, how did we get here?” she asked during a discussion with Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey. “There was this enormous bill related to police actions and crime, and pro-abortion legislators in Parliament managed to tie in this decriminalization proposal, making abortion legal for up to nine months.”
Rose detailed that this legislation means “a baby’s life can be terminated right up to birth without any criminal repercussions.”
“You can receive abortion pills by mail, take them in your home. It’s possible to end the life of a baby that’s 32 weeks old with no accountability. It’s a very grim moment for the UK. Naturally, a pro-life movement is now saying this needs to be stopped,” she added.
Stuckey pondered, “Can British pro-lifers actually make a difference here? Or is this just how it’s going to be?”
Rose replied, “If we gather enough MPs, we could potentially reverse this. It’s about mobilizing that political strength and support.” She noted that those who wish to advocate for pro-life policies in the UK already face significant challenges, but they are not alone in this struggle.
“Honestly, I believe there’s growing unease in the UK about the way the government is operating. It touches on guarding women and girls from violence, and there’s also a concerning trend regarding free speech. Individuals praying outside abortion clinics are actually facing arrests,” she said.
She believes that “people with good intentions—those who support pro-life and pro-family values—should strive to build a dedicated advocacy group similar to what we have in the United States. And I truly think it’s achievable if we have the right political resolve.”
