Lindsey Vonn, the renowned American skier, was seen being pushed in a wheelchair at Los Angeles Airport over the weekend. This comes as she continues to recover from a serious injury sustained during the Winter Olympics in February.
A recent photo captures Vonn dressed in dark, casual travel attire, sitting in a wheelchair being assisted by airport personnel. There’s a moment where she seems to be smiling with her bag resting in her lap, alongside a smiling airport staff member.
In other images, she was spotted using crutches as well.
Vonn’s road to recovery has been impressive, especially considering the severity of her injury in Italy on February 8th. At one point, she faced the risk of amputation due to a condition called compartment syndrome stemming from her compound tibia fracture, which caused excruciating pain during her initial CT scan.
“Halfway through, I started sweating. It hurt really bad. I screamed at the top of my lungs. Take me out,” Vonn recalled to Vanity Fair.
“It doesn’t go away. It’s burned into my brain,” she added, reflecting on the ordeal.
As a three-time Olympic medalist, Vonn has shared that she experienced feelings of depression following her injury and certainly faced many ups and downs during her recovery.
“I think I’ve gotten better in the last month, but of course, I’ve had periods when I felt really low,” she expressed to People magazine recently. She noted how difficult it was to rely on others and described her experience of being hospitalized alone for two and a half weeks as quite challenging.
Despite this, Vonn spoke positively about her future and her recovery.
She mentioned to the media that she feels closer to reclaiming her life and achieving her goals. Vonn has even started making summer plans and booked flight tickets, believing that a more normal life could be within her reach in the next six weeks.
It seems she’s not quite ready to give up skiing, either. “Whether it’s at the racetrack or not, I’ll definitely be back,” she told People.
