Lisa criticized for her Met Gala outfit featuring ‘Rosa Parks’ underwear

From “White Lotus” to a whirlwind of controversy.

On Monday night, K-pop sensation Lisa, who is part of the cast for season 3, made a notable appearance at a gala.

The 28-year-old Blackpink star dazzled on the red carpet in a custom Louis Vuitton outfit that seemed to pay homage to the theme “Superfin: Tailing Black Style,” celebrating Black Dandism.

Her ensemble included an embroidered black blazer, logo tights, and a lace bodysuit that, well, didn’t leave much to the imagination.

The buzz, however, wasn’t solely about her bold fashion choice.

If you looked closely, the intricate lace design on her bodysuit bore what looked like faces.

Some users expressed their thoughts, stating, “Rosa Parks in underwear within three months of the edit—that’s a bit strange, right? Or maybe it’s just me!”

Another user added, “Who thought it was a good idea to feature the faces of powerful Black women in such a context?”

The graphic designs—a collage of faces—became most apparent beneath her waist and quickly sparked a backlash on social media.

“I just can’t wrap my head around why Rosa Parks is featured this way. Did she really think this was appropriate?” another fan questioned.

This incident doesn’t come without its baggage. Just weeks prior, a clip circulated showing Lisa and fellow Blackpink members Jenny and Rose allegedly using a racial slur during a performance.

So far, no idols have come forward to address this controversy, and many are upset over the perceived insensitivity.

“Even if she hasn’t apologized for using offensive language, Lisa seems unfazed, showcasing underwear with images of Rosa Parks, who stood against racial injustice,” commented one critic.

The collage-like motifs on her outfit drew immediate scrutiny online following her Met Gala appearance.

A Louis Vuitton spokesperson mentioned that the design, created by artist Henry Taylor, includes figures from his life; however, it has not been verified if Rosa Parks is among them.

One comment called her attire “the worst expression of the night.”

Lisa hasn’t addressed the backlash yet, but the phrase “Rosa Parks Underwear” began trending as the night unfolded.

According to reports, Louis Vuitton confirmed that the design was crafted by American artist Henry Taylor, who was specifically chosen by Pharrell Williams for his Spring 2024 collection.

The brand described the print as featuring “portraits of people significant to the artist.”

But whether those portraits include Rosa Parks remains unclear, as inquiries for clarification have yet to yield definitive answers.
