Romy and Michelle Sequel Filming in Los Angeles
Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino were seen shooting the “Romy and Michelle” sequel in Los Angeles this past Wednesday, marking nearly 30 years since the original film debuted.
Both actresses are set to reprise their iconic roles as Michelle Weinberger and Romy White. Kudrow, aged 62, sported a playful all-pink outfit, which included a cropped jacket, a miniskirt layered over leggings, a charm belt, and coordinating sunglasses.
Her bright blonde hair was slicked back to rest on her shoulders, and she accessorized with a purple bag and white sneakers. On the other hand, Sorvino, 58, wore a stylish purple trench coat dress, complemented by a silver rhinestone belt and pink handbag, along with matching sunglasses. She also had her hair in flowing curls and wore sneakers, giving off a relaxed vibe.
The set also featured Alan Cumming, reprising his role as Sandy Fink, a nerdy high school student who becomes a millionaire. He was noted to be wearing a purple striped suit during the shoot. New additions to the cast, Keegan-Michael Key and Rob Huebel, were spotted as well, but details about their characters remain under wraps.
According to reports, the beloved characters from the first film will return in this sequel, including Janine Garofalo as Heather Mooney, Camryn Manheim as Toby Walters, and Julia Campbell as Christy Masters. Additionally, newcomers Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham are joining the ensemble.
In June, 20th Century Studios officially announced that a sequel was in development, sharing a photo of Kudrow and Sorvino sitting in director’s chairs on set, adorned with the words “Romy and Michele 2.”
The original comedy, released in 1997, followed Romy and Michelle as they traveled to their 10-year high school reunion, where they vowed to fake their success to impress former classmates. Earlier this year, Sorvino hinted that the sequel had been in the works, expressing her surprise at the movie’s lasting influence on fans and pop culture.
She remarked on her podcast how touching it was to receive a standing ovation from fans during a screening, reflecting on the film’s deep significance in many people’s lives.
