LIV Golf’s Uncertain Future

It seems that LIV Golf might struggle to finish the 2026 season as originally planned.

A recent report highlights a growing concern among insiders that financial support from the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) could cease sooner than many anticipated.

An executive from one of LIV’s significant partners mentioned that there are four upcoming events, starting with LIV Golf UK, set for July 23 to 26. However, they noted that “all remaining tournaments are in jeopardy.”

Following UK, three more events are slated for the U.S., including one at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, in early August.

The report mentioned that, of the four remaining tournaments in 2026, the event at Trump’s course is the least likely to be impacted by the current funding concerns.

“I don’t think anyone really knows,” the executive commented. “LIV Golf doesn’t know when PIF might pull the plug.”

There’s a Team Championship event planned in Michigan for late August, but someone involved with LIV and the PGA Tour expressed doubts, stating, “I don’t think it will be possible to go to Michigan.”

Additionally, LIV previously canceled an event in New Orleans scheduled for this month. Officially, it was said to avoid conflicts with the summer heat and the World Cup, but the timing of the announcement raised eyebrows amid reports about potential funding cuts from PIF.

Back in April, the PIF declared it would stop funding LIV after this season, casting uncertainty on the league’s future, which aimed to rival the PGA Tour.

LIV executives have been on the lookout for new financial backers since the PIF, having invested over $6 billion into LIV since its inception in 2022, revealed its plans. “We continue to see strong momentum on and off the track,” said LIV CEO Scott O’Neill. “We have begun sharing our business plan with potential partners who see the opportunity for team golf on a global scale.”
