House Passes GOP Tax and Spending Bill with Trump’s Priorities
The House of Representatives has approved a tax and spending bill backed by the GOP, aligning closely with President Trump’s domestic agenda. After significant debate, the bill is now headed to the Senate for further consideration, following another vigil for those affected at home, which underscored divisions in the House.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) expressed his enthusiasm about the bill’s passage, stating that the assumptions made by the media and Democrats regarding the success of House Republicans had been proven wrong. He remarked, “We have made it our mission to enact President Trump’s vision.”
In a similar vein, Trump tweeted about the approval, referring to the bill as “‘One, big, beautiful bill’” that marks a significant milestone in U.S. history.
However, potential hurdles loom in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader John Tune (R-S.D.) has initiated talks with fellow Republicans who are concerned about the bill’s implications, particularly regarding potential cuts to Medicaid.
On a different note, there was a shocking incident in Washington on Wednesday—a couple of Israeli embassy officials were involved in fatal shootings outside an event at the Capital Jewish Museum, which added to the day’s tension.
Trump is expected to host a dinner for his cryptocurrency investors at his golf course on Thursday evening, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Later this week, a budget hearing is scheduled, where Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer and Food and Drug Director Marty McCurry are set to provide testimonies before a Senate committee.
These developments highlight a dynamic political landscape, with various issues vying for attention and action from lawmakers.
