Local elections 2024: full council results for England | Local elections

Elections were held on May 2nd in the UK’s 107 parliaments, with over 2,000 seats up for grabs. Some were for metropolitan boroughs such as Manchester City Council, while others were for unitary authorities such as Bristol and Dorset. Both organizations are single-tier authorities and are responsible for a full range of council services, including education, social care, rubbish collection and parks.

Elections were held for 58 district councils. The responsibilities of subordinate authorities are more limited but include planning, housing and recycling. District councils typically elect her one-third of the seats each year in a four-year cycle, with the upper tier council (usually the county council) elected in the fourth year.

In London, elections were held for the London Assembly as well as for mayors in 11 other cities, including London, Greater Manchester and Liverpool. These people were subject to changes in the voting system since they last stood for election. They are currently elected on a post basis. The Police and Crime Commissioner also stood for election.
