Threatening Behavior Near School Leads to Arrest
A 66-year-old man from Seaford, Long Island, has reportedly been shouting death threats and blasphemies at a group of young children—aged 5 and 6—who were playing sports nearby. The incident occurred during an after-school activity at Seaford Harbor Elementary School.
Michael Maron allegedly yelled phrases like “I’ll kill you” from his backyard on a Thursday evening, targeting the students engaged in sports, as stated in court documents I’ve come across.
His home is right next to the elementary school, which has over 500 students enrolled.
Maron was taken into custody on Friday and faced charges in Hempstead’s First District Court the following day. His charges include risk of harm and making terrorist threats.
After his arrest, he firmly denied the accusations, telling one news outlet, “I would never do that.”
Police presence at the school increased immediately following the incident, prompting the cancellation of outdoor activities. Some students sought help from school psychologists due to the distress caused, according to reports.
Maron has had prior run-ins with the school community, including a past arrest in 2014 for discharging a BB gun near the premises.
The judge in this case ordered Maron to be released under electronic monitoring, though it seems he is not allowed to approach the school.
A neighbor expressed concern, stating, “He should leave. He should not live near the school.”
Another court appearance is scheduled for June 3rd.
