Local resident remembers gunshots after homeowner fires at thieves in Studio City

Some neighbors in Studio City are feeling on edge after a homeowner shot at two potential robbers early Tuesday morning. They reported hearing a suspicious vehicle moving along their street just before the gunfire erupted.

One resident, who preferred to remain unnamed, recalled waking up around 4 a.m. to the unsettling sound of a black Chevrolet idling nearby on Laurel Crest Drive. She mentioned feeling uneasy immediately. “It’s just one of those gut feelings,” she shared.

Another neighbor took notice, using a laser pointer to shine a red light on the car’s wheels, which prompted the driver to kill the engine. Yet, that action didn’t surprise him much. The woman’s husband got up, took note of the vehicle’s license plate, and went outside to snap a photo. That’s when the gunshots were fired from a neighboring property valued at $2.4 million.

“I really couldn’t believe their boldness,” a different neighbor commented, expressing disbelief at the audacity of the situation.

Following the gunfire, the noise of running could be heard, and shortly after, the neighbor’s alarm system activated, prompting a call to 911.

Authorities reported that one of the suspects, a 16-year-old boy, was shot before managing to escape in the Chevrolet.

As for the homeowner, whose identity remains undisclosed, it’s uncertain if he will face legal repercussions. California’s Stand Your Ground law permits individuals to defend themselves against immediate threats, potentially involving the use of lethal force. Still, there’s an ongoing balance regarding self-defense rights and preventing unnecessary violence.
