Long Island Man Arrested for Indecent Exposure Repeatedly Released Due to Bail Laws
A man from Long Island, dubbed as a “creep,” has been arrested for indecent exposure in front of several women, but was released due to the state’s bail policies, prosecutors reported on Tuesday.
Nicholas Critelli, 20, faces charges stemming from two incidents in October where he allegedly exposed himself while pleasuring himself in front of women. This follows a previous arrest just four months earlier for a similar offense involving two other women, as noted by officials.
During both recent incidents, he was released because the charges were deemed not bail eligible, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.
“The defendant’s alleged behavior is unacceptable — and New York’s ineffective bail laws allow him to allegedly repeat these acts without consequences,” said Suffolk DA Ray Tierney.
He emphasized, “My office is unable to request bail despite the severity of the alleged crimes and the pattern of repeated offenses. Bail reform is not serving the people of New York, but we will continue to pursue justice in the four cases against this defendant.”
Critelli’s string of offenses reportedly began on June 4, when he flashed a woman while in the Target parking lot in Saville.
Just two days later, he catcalled a woman in Sayville while engaged in similar acts in his car, according to authorities.
After those incidents, he was arrested and given a desk appearance ticket for public lewdness charges but was released shortly after.
However, Critelli did not stop, and by October he was allegedly at it again, before he even had his day in court for the earlier charges.
On the night of October 1, he was reported to have touched himself while sitting in a car parked at a Walmart in Centereach, fully visible to a woman walking by.
Then, on October 14, he was accused of similar behavior in a Target parking lot in Commack, where he allegedly called out to a woman, “You’re so pretty. Are you from around here?”
He was arrested on October 16, and the following day, he faced arraignment on two more counts of public lewdness and was released once again, this time under supervised conditions, according to the DA.
Critelli has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is scheduled to return to court on November 4.
