A longtime NYPD investigator.james byrne — He served as a trusted advisor to the department’s top officers. — The Post reported that he was leaving the highest ranks to join the U.S. Secret Intelligence Service.
Mr. Byrne, a senior communications advisor and detective 1st class, “has served the NYPD and the people of New York City with distinction for more than 20 years,” Commissioner Edward A. Caban said in a statement.
“Throughout his career, Mr. James has been a trusted communications advisor to many senior executives and a steady and reliable liaison with the media,” he said. “During my tenure, James led the executive communications team and served as chief speechwriter.”
Mr. Byrne, a nearly 23-year veteran, also held the position of First Deputy Secretary for Public Affairs. — Processing transactions with media — The same goes for the Director-General and the Director-General of Social Affairs.
“He was an essential member of my staff and will be greatly missed,” Cavan added. “On behalf of the entire NYPD, I wish him every success in his new role with the U.S. Secret Service.”
In her new role, Byrne will lead the company’s new public affairs division, which is based in the Big Apple.
Byrne began working for the NYPD in July 2001, patrolling the 81st Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant, primarily on the night shift, according to his LinkedIn page.
Two months after taking office, he wrote that he served as a first responder at Ground Zero in the immediate aftermath of the tragic September 11 terrorist attacks.
Just five months ago, he achieved a personal milestone — Surrounded by his wife and young sons, he watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person for the first time.
“It’s also nice to see so many people from my family that I work with,” he posted. “Thank you to all the first responders who made sure it was a safe day for everyone. Thank you for your many blessings in 2023.”
