The Treasury Department has warned that you might want to keep an eye out for your Stay NJ property tax payments, which are scheduled to be sent out on Monday.

The state has stated there’s no option for direct deposit regarding ANCHOR payments. Instead, all eligible homeowners will receive their Stay NJ payments by paper check.

If you don’t get a payment this week, don’t worry. There will be more payments sent out in the coming weeks.

Spokesman Daniel Curry mentioned that the average Stay NJ payment will be about $639. He previously indicated to NJ Advance Media that approximately 438,000 homeowners have been approved for these benefits so far.

You can check on the status of your benefits via the Treasury Department’s website, although many users have encountered error messages while attempting to use this tool. To find the status check tool, just scroll down to the large blue box labeled “Check benefit status.”

This tool will show you if your benefits are still being processed or if they’ve been approved. If approved, it will provide the expected payment date, as well as information on whether you’re eligible for ANCHOR and/or Senior Freeze.

To determine your Stay NJ benefit, the state first combines the ANCHOR benefit with the Senior Freeze benefit. If the total is less than half your property tax bill (up to $6,500), you’ll receive an additional payment under Stay NJ.

For homeowners aged 65 and older, or those receiving disability benefits from Social Security, the income limit is set at $500,000.

The state has previously sent out “letters of determination” outlining how much each recipient would get under ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and Stay NJ. However, if you haven’t received a Stay NJ calculator, you’re still eligible to use it.

If you have any questions, you can reach out to the state hotline at (888) 238-1233, or check the regional help center for direct support. Reservations aren’t necessary, although you can make them if you wish.

Homeowners also have the option to go online to fill out the PAS-1 form, which is a combined application for next year’s ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and Stay New Jersey benefits. You can sign up now, but remember that the 2025 benefit payments still depend on the state budget, which won’t expire until July 1.
