“At the end of the day, this man was in possession of a firearm. There was no need for him to be in possession of a firearm despite his criminal history,” he added.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna credits the bulletproof vest he was wearing at the time of the shooting with saving his life.
Aispro was wearing a uniform and riding a police-issued motorcycle at the time of the shooting. He was taken by ambulance to a medical center for treatment, but the vest he was wearing saved his life, Luna said.
Authorities immediately began searching for a white sedan with tinted windows that was last seen heading west on Interstate 10 from Barranca Street. They eventually located Duran and arrested him.
