Los Angeles Mayor Sues Trump Administration

Los Angeles Mayor Files Lawsuit Against Trump Administration

On Tuesday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that the city has initiated a lawsuit against the Trump administration in an effort to stop what she describes as aggressive immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) activities in the city.

Bass argues that these actions disproportionately target individuals based on their race or ethnicity, and she is calling for immediate injunctions to prevent any further operations by ICE and Customs and Border Protection.

“It’s crucial that we utilize all available avenues to seek justice. That’s our goal today, and we hope the court will grant this injunction to put a halt to these actions,” Bass stated. “But it’s worth reiterating: our city stands united, and there’s no anxiety here about these issues.”

“We are an immigrant city. Regardless of where they originate from or why they are here, we stand with our fellow Angelenos, and we are proud to join together in this lawsuit for justice,” she added.

On Monday, Bass requested that federal agents withdraw from MacArthur Park, where an ICE operation was taking place. A video from Fox 11 Los Angeles captured Bass insisting, “They need to leave, they need to leave now!”

In June, protests erupted in response to an ICE operation in Los Angeles County, prompting a call for President Trump to send in the National Guard after two days of violent confrontations between protesters and law enforcement. Democrats have demonstrated at various ICE facilities as a reaction to the administration’s immigration enforcement measures.

In May, similar confrontations occurred when Newark’s Democrat Mayor Ras Baraka, along with New Jersey lawmakers, were denied entry to a detention facility. Notably, Democrat Maxine Waters experienced similar issues when she tried to visit the Los Angeles Federal Building in June, seeking information about a detained SEIU president amid another ICE operation.

As of now, the Trump administration has not responded to inquiries regarding this lawsuit.
