Lowe’s announces end to several DEI policies in internal memo: report

Home improvement chain Lowe's is reportedly planning to eliminate several diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.

The retail chain is the latest major company to revise its DEI policies, according to an internal memo reported by Reuters.

Lowe's is reportedly ending its participation in an investigation by the Human Rights Campaign, one of the nation's largest and most progressive nonprofits.

The Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index is an annual survey and report that is purportedly used to evaluate “policies, practices, and benefits relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) employees.”

The company is a longtime supporter of the Human Rights Campaign, sometimes citing the progressive advocacy group's “equality” rankings in its internal media.

“Lowe's has been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as one of the Best Workplaces for LGBTQ+ Equality,” the company boasted on social media in 2019. “And we're proud of that. Happy Pride Month!”

Lowe's has previously sponsored local stores' participation in local Pride parades, and the home improvement chain has always fully supported LGBT causes.

The scale and impact of the company's policy change is yet to be seen, but it appears to be part of a larger trend of companies freeing themselves from the burden of DEI initiatives.

Tractor Supply, John Deere and other major companies have walked back progressive messaging and DEI-focused policies in recent months.

Fox Business reached out to Lowe's for comment but did not receive a response.
