Australian golfer Hannah Green defended her title against Lowe on Sunday at the JM Eagle LA Championship in Hollywood, earning her fifth career LPGA victory.
She shot a 5-under 66 and finished the tournament at 12 under. Green pulled away, beating Maja Stark by three strokes and taking home the trophy.
Green was stuck on the front nine, making seven pars with one birdie and one bogey. But she was ejected on the back nine. Green made three birdies and one eagle in the final seven holes to escape.
As an Australian golfer, Wilshire Country Club is a perfect fit for her game. This finish marked her fourth consecutive top-three finish at this historic course.
“I think my ball flight will help if I can land the ball a little better and put a little more spin on it,” Green said. “Obviously, I absolutely love it here. It kind of feels like home in the sense that so many people come to watch me. There are also a lot of Australians who come to support me. ”
She chipped in on the par-4 12th, which sparked a run on the back nine.
“I think that was a big momentum boost,” she said. “I always felt like it wasn’t the nine where I could score. It was always the back nine. When that came in, it definitely changed the game. When I made the eagle on the 15th, that sealed the deal…usually , I made it tricky myself, so I was able to win by one stroke and I’m grateful that I won by a few strokes.”
With this win, she became the fifth Australian LPGA player to record five career wins. It was Green’s second win of the season, after winning the HSBC Women’s World Championship in March.
