Macrons File Lawsuit Against Candice Owens
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, have initiated a lawsuit against American conservative commentator Candice Owens. They claim that Owens made “clearly false” assertions about Brigitte’s gender identity, alleging she was born male.
In a comprehensive 218-page legal filing in Delaware, the Macrons are pursuing financial damages against Owens for her statements regarding Brigitte allegedly being transgender.
Owens previously stated her conviction that Brigitte is actually a man, even going so far as to suggest that she is Jean Michel Troglue—Brigitte’s brother—who supposedly adopted a female identity after a gender transition.
In a statement reported by Financial Times, President Macron remarked that Owens has consistently reiterated these falsehoods despite repeated demands for her to retract them, leaving them no choice but to take the matter to court.
Tohmas Rare, an attorney at the Claire Locke Law Firm representing the Macrons, noted that they intend to attend the trial in Delaware to seek punitive damages. Rare emphasized the importance of standing up for oneself and criticized Owens for ignoring opportunities to address the situation appropriately.
Still, navigating the U.S. legal landscape poses a challenge, as public figures like the Macrons must meet high standards to prove defamation. This requires demonstrating that Owens knowingly spread false information or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.
This isn’t the first time the Macrons have turned to legal action regarding rumors about Brigitte. In 2022, they filed a formal complaint against journalist Natacha Ray and a self-identified medium named Amandin Roy, leading to a conviction and a fine in 2023.
Rumors about Brigitte’s gender surfaced back in 2017 during Macron’s presidential campaign, which he subsequently described as a sexist attempt to undermine the “strong woman” he married.
In addition to defending against these gender rumors, the lawsuit also addresses conspiracy claims alleging that President Macron is a product of a CIA mind control program, denying any involvement in such activities. The filing further clarifies that while Macron met Brigitte when she was his teacher at 39 and he was a 15-year-old student, their relationship only became romantic later, staying within legal boundaries.
As of now, Owens has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
