Maduro Moves Quickly to Start Discussions with U.S. Following Venezuela Strike

Maduro Calls for Dialogue with U.S. Amid Tensions

Nicolas Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, is reaching out for discussions with the United States after the recent seizure of an oil tanker and military actions targeting his government. With pressure mounting from President Trump, Maduro is proposing new conversations regarding U.S. access to Venezuela’s extensive oil resources and issues related to drug trafficking, as reported by Reuters.

During a broadcast on state TV, Maduro highlighted the need to reopen discussions about Chevron’s investment in Venezuelan oil and urged Trump to engage in a “serious talk” to collaboratively address drug trafficking issues.

Venezuela has been recognized as a central base for various powerful drug cartels, including the Torren de Aragua and the Cartel de los Soles, which has ties to Maduro.

“To the American public, I reiterate what I’ve long maintained: Venezuela is a friendly nation and has a welcoming government,” Maduro stated. “Given the current circumstances, we must start meaningful discussions. The U.S. government has heard our message—if they are serious about combating drug trafficking, we are open to negotiations.”

“If the U.S. wants Venezuelan oil, we’re ready to accept investments from companies like Chevron at any time and in any way,” he added. This comes against the backdrop of reports of U.S. military strikes and seizures targeting Venezuelan oil assets.

The Trump administration has conducted operations against several oil tankers and has engaged in military strikes against suspected cartel vessels in surrounding waters. Trump has labeled the Maduro regime as “illegitimate” and has hinted at possible actions to remove such leaders from power.

Since September, more than 100 suspected traffickers have been arrested as part of the ongoing U.S. operations in the Caribbean, reflecting a significant escalation in efforts against drug-related activities.

The White House has yet to comment on these developments.
