MAGA supporter retracts endorsement of Trump's 'big, beautiful bill'

Marjorie Taylor Greene Questions Support for Major Bill

This week, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., stirred the pot by admitting she hadn’t fully grasped the implications of a significant bill that she had previously backed. Now, she’s distancing herself from it, declaring it fully actionable.

Greene is joining a growing list of GOP allies of former President Donald Trump who have recently expressed discontent with a bill that Trump voted for just two weeks ago.

Rep. Scott Perry, another staunch MAGA supporter from Pennsylvania, expressed thoughts on Elon Musk’s influence, suggesting that he deserves to rally others in leadership positions.

Perry lamented, “If only the @freedomcaucus had been heeded earlier.” Musk has commented on the legislation, characterizing it as a “debt bomb” and suggesting conservatives missed an opportunity.

The “One Big Beautiful Bill” has undergone extensive discussions and adjustments, but it seems to be facing hurdles in the Senate as bipartisan backing appears shaky.

Interestingly, Musk, who played a role in the Trump administration’s government efficiency efforts, seems to be using his newfound freedom to critique this legislation more openly.

Greene wasn’t shy about her frustrations. She expressed embarrassment over the Congressional expenditure bill and admonished those who supported it. Her critique came out in a post earlier this week, where she referred to the bill as “outrageous”.

When questioned about former President Trump’s feelings regarding the negative commentary from Musk, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt sidestepped the inquiry, asserting that Trump remains supportive of the bill.

Controversy surrounds the bill, particularly concerning provisions aimed at regulating artificial intelligence (AI). Greene, who had initially supported the bill, now has reservations about a clause that would restrict state regulations on AI for ten years.

She has called for the Senate to modify or remove this clause before she can support it again. Greene worries about the potential dangers of unrestrained AI development over the coming decade.

As of now, the national debt has skyrocketed to over $36 trillion, further complicating discussions around fiscal responsibility within this proposed legislation.

Fox News Digital has sought comments from both the White House and Greene regarding these developments.
