During a recent episode of his podcast, Bill Maher took a jab at liberals, suggesting they overly panic about Donald Trump’s superficial behavior, which doesn’t genuinely impact their daily lives. He hosted British comedian Jack Whitehall and humorously referred to a list of Trump’s insults as a “great relic of history.” This list, reportedly 60 insults long, was signed by Trump during a dinner back in March 2025.
Maher also acknowledged that Trump seemed to have tried to hinder his receiving the Mark Twain Award at the Kennedy Center last month, indicating, perhaps, that Trump enjoys being considered relevant. He remarked, “I never expected something like this to happen,” referring to the award, and reflected on Trump’s attempt to block it. “When they took his name off the building, he curtained it so you couldn’t see anything on it. I’m not kidding,” he added.
Interestingly, Maher claimed he doesn’t have much concern about Trump’s antics anymore. “If you’re still attached to his character at this point, ten years into the Trump situation, I think that’s your fault,” he said. He believes it’s more important to critique the actual policies rather than get bogged down in personal attacks. Maher explained that he’s reached a point where he realizes Trump’s behavior is just part of who he is, and past that, it simply doesn’t affect him directly.
He made a point to dismiss several of Trump’s more trivial controversies, arguing they are not worthy of outrage. “I don’t care about your reflecting pond… you could have a UFC fight or graze sheep there like one president did. Do whatever you want. Pickleball. I don’t care what you do on the lawn,” he remarked, expressing that an obsession with Trump is misplaced since it shifts focus away from more significant issues.
In a reflective moment, Maher concluded, “I’m winning,” stating he feels less impacted by Trump than many, emphasizing that, “Your life is all about Donald Trump. My life is not.”
