Parliament Jared Golden (D-Maine) urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to “call a new election and win” when negotiating a peace deal to end a three-year war in Eastern Europe.
Golden, a battlefield democrat, praised Ukrainian soldiers in his “brave” battle with the Russian army, but argued that the long-term war of “attrition” had “worse, not much better.”
“If Ukrainians still have the will to fight, then no one will be able to force a peace agreement they don't like,” Golden said in a statement Tuesday.
“But, as President Zelensky showed today, if peace is on the table, he should do what he needs to do to strengthen his hands in negotiating a deal that his people can accept,” Golden said. “One way to do that is to call a new election and win. To show the world that he has orders to negotiate on his people.”
Tensions are bubbly between Trump and Zelensky, even in front of an explosive fallout in the oval office on Friday.
Trump I used to play Zelensky His nation's leaders call him an “elector-free dictator,” and blame Ukraine for doing “terrifying work” as the head of a war-torn country and starting a war.
Zelensky recovered by claiming that Trump lives in a “space of disinformation” in Russia.
The commander also wondered why Zelensky didn't vote for the entire country.
“Think about it. The modestly successful comedian Volodimia Zelensky spoke to the United States to spend $350 billion and to go to a war that cannot be won, but the war that could never be solved without the United States and “Trump” has previously written about the true society.
Ukrainian presidential elections have been postponed due to the marriage laws imposed after Russia's February 2022 invasion.
On Tuesday morning, Zelensky described his enthusiastic White House meeting on Friday as “remorse” with Trump and Vice President Vance, but stopped offering an apology to Huddle, who appears to be straining Washington-Kiev relations.
The Ukrainian president also said in a social media post Tuesday that Kiev is ready to negotiate a peace deal to end the conflict in Eastern Europe.
“Ukraine is always ready to sign in any convenient form, in terms of minerals and security agreements,” writes Zelensky. “We see this agreement as a step towards improving security and solid security assurances, and we really hope that it works effectively.”
Golden said on Tuesday that Trump's push to ensure peace between the two countries was “appropriate,” but added that Russia is still a “threat” to the United States.
“Seeking peace is good for President Trump, but whatever he does to help him end this war, we should keep in mind the truth that Russia continues to be a threat to America,” Golden said Tuesday.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (Rs.C.), one of Ukrainian fervent supporters in Capitol Hill, said he was “prideful” Trump and questioned whether Washington could once again “do business” with Zelensky after the explosion on Friday.
“He needs to step down and send someone that we can do business or he needs to change,” Graham added.
South Carolina lawmakers appeared to praise Zelensky on Tuesday's X-Post. I'm saying “A better day has arrived.”
