Maine Senate Candidate Says He Experiences Monthly Periods Through His Rectum

A transgender activist, running for office to take over from Graham Platner amidst a scandal, has reportedly made a striking claim in a Reddit post about experiencing monthly periods and rectal bleeding.

Ashley Webb is one of the Democratic candidates in Maine aiming to replace Platner, who suspended his campaign after facing rape allegations. Webb argues that the transgender community is being dehumanized and simply expresses a need to use the bathroom.

“If you want me to use the men’s room, I can do that, but I worry about being assaulted,” she mentioned in a recent debate.

In her Reddit post, Webb, who writes under the username sparky603, discussed her gender dysphoria. She announced her Senate candidacy last week.

“I am a transgender and intersex woman from Farmington, managing my campaign independently. I’m both the candidate and the treasurer, with no significant donors or support,” she wrote, appearing to appeal to registered Democrats to sign her petition, even admitting her challenges in a crowded field. A similar message was echoed on her campaign website.

Webb spent considerable time discussing her self-identified condition on Reddit, explaining that her karyotype is XY, indicating a biological male origin. Yet she insists having an external male appearance doesn’t define her identity, claiming, “I’m quite sure I’m XX, so please accept that.” She further mentioned unusual sensations, questioning if it’s a tumor instead of an organ.

She states that she believes she has ovarian functions and monthly periods, despite lacking evidence of female reproductive organs. Webb suggested that her bleeding might be occurring from her anus.

“My testosterone level is 429 ng/dl, and my estrogen level is 285 pg/ml,” she detailed in one of the discussions. “Estrogen hasn’t altered my male anatomy. During puberty, my breasts developed, and my hips expanded.”

When someone pushed back against her claims, she explained experiencing cramps and feeling something abnormal in her lower abdomen. “Every month, during intense pain, there’s something bothering me on both sides,” she stated, indicating that her “period” seems to occur because there’s no “proper hole.”

If there’s no suitable exit, one must find the alternatives. While some might be fortunate to have another route, I ended up with the colon as my exit. Each month, the pain results in bleeding from there.

Those of us who are intersex don’t usually have multiple openings and often remain undiagnosed until adulthood. I didn’t receive a proper diagnosis in my 20s due to unhelpful medical professionals focusing more on offering pain relief than identifying the root issue.

She expressed reluctance to discuss her rectal bleeding, noting difficulties when her doctor recommended a colonoscopy that yielded no findings. She also emphasized that a CAT scan fails to reveal a uterus or ovaries when classified as male.

In another conversation, Webb clarified her platform, stating, “It’s not solely about being transgender; that’s just who I am.” She emphasized her focus on healthcare accountability, infrastructure investment, corporate responsibility, transparency in governance, and foreign policy positions. “I want support based on my advocacy, not just my identity,” she added.
