Maine Senate Candidate Endorsement Updates
Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate for the Maine Senate, is reported to be endorsing state Representative Vali Geiger, according to WMTV 8.
Geiger mentioned that Platner reached out to her on Monday night, asking if he could publicly support her. She recalled him saying, “Valli, you’re a fighter; you’ve been in this movement from the beginning,” as reported by Total Coverage of Maine.
However, as of now, Platner hasn’t made any official announcements related to the campaign.
In light of some recent allegations of sexual assault that have surfaced on social media, Geiger expressed that she felt “heartbroken” over the situation.
Vali Geiger has finally released a statement.
“I’m not throwing Graham under the bus…I acknowledge the pain on all sides.”
The centerpiece of the woman’s bill was aimed at increasing access to sexual assault tracking kits.
Geiger is currently serving as a Democrat in District 42 in the Maine House of Representatives. In a social media post, she shared her thoughts on the accusations, stating, “While I do not intend to throw Ms. Graham under the bus, I will not vilify or criticize Ms. Racicot any more than I would speak the truth of what she experienced. I acknowledge the pain on all sides and show compassion on all sides.”
Previously, Geiger collaborated with Platner to secure funding for rape kit training while he was actively competing for the Democratic Senate nomination. She also featured in Platner’s campaign ad in April, highlighting his support in the legislative effort.
New ad:
How our campaign played a key role in passing Congresswoman Vali Guyger’s landmark rape kit bill in Maine.
This is more than a Senate seat. It’s always been that way.
Geiger stated her desire for “a very open, transparent, and strong caucus to decide who should come forward,” as noted by NBC News.
Afterward, a spokesperson from Platner’s campaign denied the reports about an endorsement toward Geiger. They clarified that Platner had not yet made a decision on his support and had merely called Geiger to thank him for his encouragement to run if he were to resign.
The Daily Caller has attempted to reach Geiger for any further comments.
