Majority Say Trump Will Be Republican Nominee

Most Americans believe former President Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee, according to the latest poll economist/YouGov found.

Voters are growing more confident, with 63% believing the candidate will be Trump.

Majorities of independents and Republicans (53% and 76%, respectively) think Trump will be the nominee. Notably, only 6% of Republicans believe the nominee will be DeSantis, and 3% believe it will be Haley. Even the majority of Democrats, 45%, believe Trump will emerge as the Republican nominee.

The same poll found that Trump leads among Republicans and independents in the Republican primary with 65 percent support, followed by Haley and DeSantis.

The survey asked respondents who they thought would win in a matchup between Trump and Biden, regardless of their personal preferences. Of those surveyed, 44% said they believed Trump would win, compared to 35% who believed Biden would win, giving Trump a 9-point lead. Additionally, he is 21% still unsure.

Trump still has an advantage among registered voters, with 44% saying they think Trump will win, while 39% think Biden will win, giving Biden a 5-5 lead. He has a points lead. Another 18 percent of registered voters are still unsure.

When asked who will win, Republicans are more confident than Democrats. 83% of President Trump voters said Biden will win, compared to 73% of Democrats who believe Biden will win. 10% of Democrats think Trump will win, while 6% of Republicans say the same goes for Biden.

But Trump has a clear advantage in terms of sentiment among independents. 40% believe Trump will win, 15 points more than the 25% of independents who believe Biden will win. Plus he's still not sure about 35%.

Overall, the poll shows Trump and Biden tied at 43% each, but Trump has a 9-point lead among independents, with Biden at 42% and Biden at 33%. was.

The survey was conducted between January 7th and 9th among 1,593 U.S. adults, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
