Mayor’s Response to Anti-ICE Protest Raises Eyebrows
Mayor Zoran Mamdani’s reaction to the protest against ICE outside a Brooklyn hospital on Saturday night showcased a heightened level of distrust toward the federal government. He criticized ICE, but interestingly, he wasn’t the only one making waves.
Brooklyn City Council member Sandy Nurse seems to have outdone him, claiming that the NYPD was “coordinating with ICE” and violating sanctuary city policies—just for trying to control a riot.
For context, immigration officials apprehended a person overstaying their visa who had a serious criminal background. This individual suffered injuries during the altercation and required medical attention at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.
This information, somehow circulating among an extreme anti-ICE group, led their members to flood the hospital and obstruct its emergency entrance. The demonstrators clashed violently with federal agents, injuring several officers and causing damage to ICE vehicles, while jeopardizing the safety of others needing medical care.
The NYPD launched a Level 6 operation, eventually arresting nine individuals involved in the riot and restoring order.
In response the following day, Mamdani described ICE in harsh terms, labeling them “cruel and inhumane.”
Meanwhile, a nurse referred to the arrest as a “kidnapping.”
Sorry, Sandy, but federal law takes precedence over your imaginative narratives.
Most people support the apprehension of undocumented immigrants committing crimes in the U.S.
Take Ronnie Yahir Alvarenga Rivera, for instance. He is an undocumented individual accused of the horrific murders of two women in Long Island—exactly the kind of person that anti-ICE protests aim to shield from federal oversight.
On the legislative front, madness seems to be brewing in Albany. Governor Kathy Hochul and Democratic lawmakers are reportedly working on a new bill to prevent local police from cooperating with ICE.
This isn’t merely about providing sanctuary for border crossers. It risks undermining federal law enforcement capabilities and could expose law-abiding citizens to threats from gangs like MS-13 and Torren de Aragua.
Perhaps a suggestion for New York Democrats: reconsider your stance against Trump without completely turning your back on public safety. You’re genuinely putting New Yorkers at risk.
