Man Accused of Killing Widdecombe Had 'Strong Leftist Attitude': Prosecutors

Accusations of Murder and Terror Plot Against Nigel Farage

This week at the Old Bailey, prosecutors described Joshua Kerry, a 28-year-old from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, as having an “extreme Left-wing mindset.” He is accused of murdering former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe and allegedly planning a terror attack against Brexit leader Nigel Farage.

According to prosecutor Jonathan Polnay KC, Kerry had gathered personal information about various politicians, including the home addresses of both Widdecombe and Farage. He reportedly created a note on his phone that contained this information, which suggested a strong anti-establishment attitude.

Kerry faces charges related to the brutal murder of Widdecombe, who was found dead at her country home, having suffered severe injuries. There are also allegations of a plot against Farage, the leader of the Reform UK party.

The prosecution asserted that the murder of the 78-year-old Widdecombe likely had links to terrorism and was potentially motivated by political fervor. Reports indicated that the two cases of murder and the alleged terror plot are “inextricably linked,” and the judge allowed the merging of charges from both incidents into one trial.

In a separate incident in July, Kerry was charged following the discovery of Widdecombe’s body, where he is believed to have attacked her with a hammer approximately 21 times. Prosecutors mentioned that he had traveled about 265 miles to her home in a van, which contained evidence connecting him to the crime.

Most recently, he was also charged for planning an attack that might target Farage along with other political figures. It is claimed that Kerry attempted to break into Farage’s residence.

A trial is set to commence on June 8 next year, following a hearing on January 29. Kerry, who appeared through a video link from HMP Belmarsh, intends to contest all allegations against him.
