Man accused of making a terroristic threat regarding a vigil at a Texas university

Teen Arrested for Alleged Threat Ahead of Charlie Kirk Memorial

A 19-year-old has been taken into custody following a social media threat made just hours before a vigil in honor of Charlie Kirk, a co-founder of Turning Point USA, at the University of Texas. Authorities say Xaelyn Dunbar is facing charges related to terrorist threats, having allegedly indicated on Facebook that he intended to use his vehicle to disrupt the memorial event.

The threat was posted on the San Antonio Young Republican Facebook page, which was promoting the vigil for Kirk, who was tragically killed during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on September 10th.

Resurfacing of Hostility Towards Conservative Activists

Dunbar’s comments drew the attention of law enforcement after being flagged by the Fusion Center in Southwest Texas. This interagency intelligence hub alerted the San Antonio Police Department, who then sent officers to Dunbar’s apartment on the city’s northeastern side.

In response to inquiries, Dunbar acknowledged that his Facebook comments could seem threatening but shrugged it off as a joke, labeling them as “absurd” and “clownish.”

During an interview with the police, he expressed a kind of defiance about his actions. Even though he was a minor, he remarked that he didn’t think it was inappropriate for his age. When asked about the consequences he might face, he indicated he was prepared to accept the outcome of his choices.

Dunbar currently remains incarcerated in Bexar County Jail, with his bond set at $40,000.
