SWAT Team Arrests Suspect Wearing Towel
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has found the body of Zamir Limon, a 27-year-old graduate student from the University of South Florida, and has taken Hisham Abugarbi into custody in connection with the disappearances of Limon and another student, Nahida Bristi, also 27.
Abugarbi, a 26-year-old suspect, barricaded himself in a home during a tense standoff with SWAT following the students’ disappearance and has been charged with two counts of murder. A statement from the sheriff’s office noted that he faces additional charges of first-degree murder with premeditated weaponry.
Evidence linked to the case has been handed over to the State Attorney’s Office, but details regarding its contents remain undisclosed to maintain the investigation’s integrity. The search for Bristi is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office directly.
Initially arrested on Friday, Abugarbi faced charges that included unlawfully hiding or removing a body, failing to report a death, tampering with evidence, and assault. Officials discovered human remains near the Howard Frankland Bridge, which were confirmed as Limon’s, although an autopsy is still awaited.
As of now, Bristi remains missing. Limon was noted to be a doctoral student in geography and environmental science, while Bristi was studying chemical engineering. Both were last seen on April 16.
Date of the incident: deputies responded to Abugarbi’s residence due to an unrelated domestic violence call. Once on scene, he barricaded himself inside, which led to a significant standoff involving various specialized teams. He eventually surrendered to law enforcement around 10:30 a.m. The situation is still evolving, with further updates anticipated as the investigation continues.
