Man Accused of Stealing Jewel Eats It Like in a 'Bond' Movie, Forces Police into Unpleasant Situation

On Thursday, police in Auckland, New Zealand retrieved a Fabergé pendant featuring a James Bond design after a suspect reportedly swallowed it while in a jewelry store. The pendant, which had been lodged inside a 32-year-old man’s gastrointestinal system, emerged six days later without medical intervention. This pendant, valued at approximately $19,000 USD, was inspired by the 1983 Bond film *Octopussy*, which included a narrative about a phony Fabergé egg and a jewel smuggling ring.

The New Zealand Police (NZP) managed to recover the pendant, along with a gold chain and the price tag, from the accused. He was arrested in connection with a theft at Partridge Jewelers on November 28. The suspect faced court on November 29 but didn’t make a statement regarding the charges. He remains in custody, and authorities are monitoring the situation as they await the reappearance of the stolen items. A court date is set for him on Monday at the Oakland District Court.

Inspector Gray Anderson mentioned that “given the circumstances, we have a duty of care to continue to monitor him.” The suspect had undergone a medical evaluation regarding the incident.

This particular pendant is a limited edition item. According to Partridge Jewelers, it is one of only 50 pieces created worldwide, standing at 8.4 cm tall. It is made from 18K yellow gold and adorned with green enamel, mirroring the enamel on the Fabergé egg shown in *Octopussy*. Notably, the piece features 183 white diamonds and two blue sapphires.

This isn’t the suspect’s first encounter with theft charges. Previous records indicate that he allegedly stole an iPad from the same jewelry store on November 12 and took over $57 worth of items, including cat litter and flea control products, from a private home the following day.
