Arrest Made Near Home of Missing Woman in Arizona
A 34-year-old individual was taken into custody late Thursday night outside the Arizona residence of Nancy Guthrie, who went missing earlier this month, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
The arrest occurred just before 8 p.m., involving Antonio De Jesus Penacampos, who was charged with driving under the influence. The sheriff’s office clarified that this arrest does not connect to the ongoing investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance.
On-site video footage shows local deputies inspecting a blue Chevrolet Equinox parked near Guthrie’s home, where she was last seen on February 1. The police were conducting what appeared to be a field sobriety test on Penacampos. During the process, he was seen walking in a straight line and later placed in the back seat of a sheriff’s vehicle.
This arrest happened as search efforts for Guthrie continued. The 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie was reported missing after a home invasion. The last record of her pacemaker syncing with her phone was around 2:30 a.m. that day. To aid in finding her, her family has offered a $1 million reward for information that would lead to her safe return.
Interestingly, two weeks prior to the abduction, a neighbor observed a suspicious man walking near Guthrie’s home. Homeowners Elias and Daniel Stratigouleas shared that their street-facing Ring camera captured numerous vehicles passing by during the early hours on the day of the alleged kidnapping. Some activity occurred around 2:30 a.m., the same time Guthrie’s pacemaker last synced.
It remains unclear whether the captured footage or vehicle movements would be significant to the investigation, as no police searches had taken place in their neighborhood since the incident.
