Man arrested for allegedly threatening to ‘butcher’ church attendees, police say

The man was arrested after police said they allegedly threatened attendees at the “butcher” church at Memphis Catholic Church.

The Memphis Police Department confirmed with Fox News Digital that Zachary Libat, 30, had been arrested after a verbal argument with a priest about tainting the baptism pool inside the church.

On Friday, officers responded to the St. Louis Catholic Church on reports of complaints from priests and church music directors about the threats caused by Ribat.

Officials said Liberto sent an email threatening to cause a massive causal relationship between church members.

The email will be sent from your email address and “we will need a video of the petitioner slapping you 24 hours before we slaughter people from that church with a machete,” police explained in a report shared with Fox News Digital.

One of the victims told the officers that he and Ribat had informed them through email addresses that threats had been created in the past.

The victim also told police he didn't know why Freedom sent the email, but they said they believed he was suffering from an unknown mental illness.

Authorities said both men said they were known to have a machete called “chete” and claimed he and firearms were also in the case, but that they were not seen. The victim added that Rivat will also remain in the homeless camp.

Records also showed investigators had obtained records from parishioners who reportedly spoke to Livat on the phone that Livat said.

According to prison records, Livat is charged under the Commission's Terrorism Act and is held on a $200,100 bond.
