Man charged with 37 counts of attempted murder after reported car attack at LA nightclub

Charges Filed in LA Nightclub Incident

A man with a criminal record has been charged after allegedly driving through a crowd outside a nightclub in Los Angeles this past weekend.

Fernando Ramirez, 29, from San Clemente, is facing 37 counts of attempted murder, along with charges related to the use of deadly weapons and other felonies, following a crash that left 37 people injured on Saturday night.

LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman remarked, “This terrifying incident has rattled our community. Thankfully, due to sheer luck, this could have resulted in a much larger number of victims.”

Ramirez reportedly drove onto the sidewalk, aiming at a large group of pedestrians gathered outside the club around 2 a.m. Most victims were women waiting to enter. The vehicle also hit a food vendor’s cart and a valet stand.

In the aftermath, bystanders intervened, pulling Ramirez from his vehicle and confronting him. During the chaos, another individual fired a gun at Ramirez, and authorities are now searching for that suspect.

Hochman noted that among the injured, eight suffered serious physical injuries.

Ramirez has a lengthy criminal history and was on parole during the incident. He was previously convicted of felony battery in 2019. Reports indicate there have been at least 11 criminal cases linked to him since 2014, and he faces additional charges related to drunken driving from 2024 and a 2022 unresolved domestic violence case.

If convicted of the charges associated with this recent incident, Ramirez could be facing life imprisonment.
