Violent Robbery in Downtown Chicago

A man is facing charges related to a brutal robbery in downtown Chicago last summer.

Michael Seawood, 24, from East Chicago, Indiana, has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault resulting in severe injury, and aggravated assault in a public place.

According to prosecutors, one victim was struck in the back of the head and knocked down. Seawood and his accomplices then stole the victim’s phone and wallet.

The attack occurred around 2:30 a.m. on July 6 in the 400 block of North Lower Michigan Avenue, where a 52-year-old man was assaulted. This victim fell and became unresponsive, suffering a broken jaw that required surgical intervention, as reported.

Furthermore, a 28-year-old man visiting from Las Vegas attempted to help but was also punched by Seawood, rendering him immobilized.

After the assaults, both victims were helpless, but Seawood and his crew allegedly rummaged through their pockets, taking cash and cellphones before fleeing the scene.

On August 1, Seawood and several accomplices reportedly targeted a 29-year-old man in the 100 block of East Illinois Street. The victim was similarly attacked, punched in the head and robbed of his phone and wallet.

Just a day later, on August 2, Seawood and his associates allegedly assaulted two brothers, aged 19 and 22, near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Lake Street. While walking, Seawood punched one of the brothers, knocking him to the ground. When the victim regained consciousness, he observed Seawood and his accomplices searching his pockets and stealing his wallet.

One of the brothers informed police that he was punched but did not see who attacked him. As he fell, Seawood’s group also took his cellphone, cash, and cards.

Three Chicago police officers later identified Seawood as one of the perpetrators, according to prosecutors.

A judge has ordered Seawood to remain in custody as he awaits trial. Records from Cook County Jail indicate he was arrested without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for January 20th.
