Florida Man Charged in Hammer Attack
A 40-year-old man from Florida, Rolbert Huachin, faces charges for allegedly murdering a woman by striking her in the head with a hammer early Thursday morning. This incident was captured on surveillance footage outside a gas station convenience store located in Fort Myers.
At approximately 8 a.m., Huachin was charged with murder and criminal mischief resulting in property damage, according to reports.
“It’s so heartbreaking… so sad. It’s somebody’s mother, daughter, sister,” an employee stated.
The victim worked at the store, as noted by several employees, and the attack appeared to stem from an altercation involving her vehicle, which Huachin allegedly vandalized by smashing its windshield.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows the victim exiting the store just before Huachin approached her and assaulted her with the hammer.
As the event unfolded, Huachin fled the scene, prompting nearby schools to enter lockdown for a brief period.
After hours of searching, police apprehended Huachin roughly a mile from the convenience store. Photos from his arrest show him restrained by officers.
Later, he was taken to the Lee County Jail, where he awaited his hearing. Interestingly, his records did not provide a bail amount, referring to him as “temporary.”
Huachin’s scheduled court appearance on Friday at 8:30 a.m. was postponed to the following Monday due to a request from his public defender.
Heartbreakingly, the victim was the mother of two teenagers, which deepens the tragedy of the situation. A regular patron at the gas station, Andre Harris, shared his sentiments: “That was someone’s mother, daughter, sister. It’s just very sad.”
