A man has been charged with throwing his girlfriend and their baby daughter from a 15-story balcony in the Bronx. Angel Carrasco, who appeared with a grin as he was escorted from a police station in New York City, remains in custody following the tragic incident that unfolded early Tuesday morning.
Onlookers reacted strongly, with shouts of “Coward! Coward!” directed at Carrasco, who seemed unfazed by the emotional response. One person yelled, “I hope they f—ing kill your ass in jail.”
Carrasco, 31, faces charges for the death of 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez, who fell from a balcony at 2550 Olinville Ave., holding her 8-month-old daughter, Angel Novalty Carrasco-Ramirez, who somehow survived the fall. Currently, the baby is fighting for her life at Jacobi Hospital.
Authorities arrested Carrasco on Wednesday night, collaborating with US Marshals and NYPD officers. Reports indicate that he had come to Ramirez’s apartment with flowers, apparently in an attempt to reconcile, despite previously facing charges for domestic violence in incidents involving her.
When his gesture was rejected, he reportedly lost his temper and threw both Ramirez and their daughter from the balcony before fleeing the scene. This wasn’t his first run-in with the law; Carrasco had also been arrested for sending threatening messages to another former partner.
Neighbors recounted a distressing scene, with one woman recalling hearing a man shout “Jump!” before the shocking crash that followed, punctuated by a woman’s agonizing cries, “No, please, no!” It was a desperate moment, filled with a sense of impending doom.
Earlier this year, Carrasco had already been arrested twice in connection with domestic violence against Ramirez, which included allegations of him breaking into her apartment after an incident where he allegedly assaulted her for objecting to his conversation with an ex-girlfriend.
Ramirez was a recent graduate of Bronx Leadership Academy High School and attended Baruch College. Colleagues at her workplace, Lishawn Consulting, remembered her as a determined and promising young woman.
