A man from Texas has reportedly confessed to killing his wife and hiding her disassembled body at his home for about a month. He allegedly told investigators that he wanted to “go big or go home” during his first violent act.
Charles Byrd, 49, was taken into custody following a day-long search initiated by his family, who had reached out to law enforcement. According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, Byrd admitted to the murder of his wife, Angela Byrd, who was found wrapped in plastic within their residence.
The authorities disclosed that Angela, aged 44, had been deceased for several weeks before her body was discovered. Sheriff Salazar noted that some unsettling remarks made by Byrd made a significant impact on the investigating team.
“He mentioned he had never been in trouble before and then added, ‘You know, go big, go home,’” Salazar recounted. “That was a rather disturbing statement.” It was quite shocking to witness how he casually spoke about evidence related to his wife’s murder.
After being located in an empty house nearby, Byrd continuously revealed details to reporters about the incident. “I’m sorry. I loved my wife,” he reportedly stated. He described experiencing a “mental break” as a factor behind his actions.
Authorities indicated that Byrd was cooperative, sharing information about the violent episode that allegedly occurred on June 16. He even intimated that he expected his wife’s body would eventually be found.
Currently, Byrd faces charges for tampering with evidence, including human remains, with potential additional murder charges pending as investigators await a definitive cause of death for Angela. “Once we receive the medical examiner’s report, if it’s confirmed that she was indeed a murder victim, we’ll seek murder charges,” stated Sheriff Salazar.
Byrd remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail and is undergoing an evaluation for mental health concerns.
