Fatal Incident Involving Man Fleeing Federal Agents
Authorities reported that a man evading federal immigration agents was tragically struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in St. Augustine, Florida, on Tuesday morning. The individual, a 28-year-old from Mexico, was part of a group that fled from a car parked at a gas station around 6:45 a.m., as stated by the Department of Homeland Security.
When confronted by officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the four occupants of the vehicle ran on foot. One of them attempted to cross a busy road, which unfortunately led to being hit by an oncoming semi-truck, resulting in his death at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the man was struck in the right lane and suffered fatal injuries. The 64-year-old truck driver stopped immediately to assist him, and the agency is actively investigating the incident.
This tragic event marks the third death related to encounters with fugitives or ICE agents in just over a week. Recently, in Texas, another individual was shot after allegedly trying to ram a federal officer with his vehicle, while a separate incident in Maine involved a man who was shot inside his car.
After the collision, hours later, the Trump administration instructed ICE agents to pause most vehicle stops nationwide, indicating a significant change in policy.
