Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Chicago
A man from London has been arrested after allegedly attempting to slit the throat of a commuter while claiming to be a CIA agent. Zakir Ibrahim, 25, faces charges of attempted murder following his arrest in Chicago on March 3.
Reportedly, Ibrahim confronted an Amtrak passenger at Union Station, held a knife to the victim’s face, and then tried to cut his throat, but missed by a very narrow margin, as detailed in a detention report.
According to the complaint, the victim was able to lean back just in time, evading serious injury. Ibrahim reportedly insisted that he was a CIA operative and believed the victim to be a hitman, which prompted his violent action.
Witnesses captured the incident on video, further complicating Ibrahim’s defense. After his arrest, he was held without bail, as indicated in court documents.
A lawyer has been appointed for Ibrahim, though their identity remains undisclosed. He is due back in court on March 27. A request for comments from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office was not promptly answered.
