On October 5, Kayonia died after accidentally falling near the exit of Heaps Canyon in Zion National Park.
The 40-year-old man, who has not been identified, was canyoning with three fellow canyoneers when he fell between 150 and 200 feet, according to a press release from Zion National Park.
The fall occurred around 6 p.m., and the group was following an approved itinerary through Heaps Canyon when the accident occurred, according to the report.

Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team and the Washington County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene and provided emergency medical care, then the Utah Department of Public Safety transported the victim by helicopter, along with the Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue Team and Intermountain Fire Department. The victim was pronounced dead before being taken to the hospital.
The remaining canyon was recovered by a DPS helicopter the next morning.

Park officials released a statement offering their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time,” Zion National Park Director Jeff Bradybaugh said in a statement.
