Man Found Guilty of Fatally Stabbing 6-Year-Old Boy Set Free from Prison

Ronald Exantus, a 42-year-old man from Indiana, was released from prison early on Friday after being convicted for the fatal stabbing of six-year-old Logan Tipton in 2015, as reported by various sources.

Exantus received a 20-year sentence in 2018 after he broke into the Tipton family’s home and killed Logan, also attacking other family members in the process. After serving less than half of his sentence, he was granted parole, a decision that has prompted the Tipton family to publicly oppose his release.

Dean Tipton, Logan’s father, expressed his heartbreak, stating, “You took human life—especially a six-year-old boy who hadn’t even had a chance yet.” He believes that Exantus should have faced life in prison without parole. “There’s something deeply wrong here,” he added, suggesting that mental health should not be an excuse for such actions.

In December 2015, Exantus, who worked as a dialysis nurse, drove from Indianapolis to Versailles, Kentucky. Upon entering the Tipton household, he attacked Logan’s father and two sisters, fatally injuring Logan in the chaos.

Logan’s mother, Heather, voiced her anguish, remarking, “He didn’t just kill my son; he’s altered our entire family.” During a six-day trial, Exantus’ defense attorneys claimed he was suffering from a mental illness at the time of the attacks. Reports indicate he may have been charged with assault rather than murder based on his mental state.

Exantus was sentenced to a combined total of 10 years for the attacks, qualifying for parole in December 2019. Initially denied in 2021, he was eventually released this year.

Following Exantus’ release, the Tipton family expressed intense fear and worry for their safety. Dean Tipton voiced concerns that Exantus might return to finish what he started, referencing past threats made by him. Heather also highlighted a lack of communication from authorities, suggesting that victims of violent crimes should be informed and given some form of protection when their attackers are released.

Since his release, Exantus has relocated to Florida to begin mandatory re-entry supervision and will be under monitoring for parole until next year.
