One man claims he spent thousands of dollars on meals at his new favorite place, the hospital cafeteria.
Omar Shafiq, 33, told news agency SWNS that he has eaten more than 700 meals at various hospitals across the UK since 2022, spending a total of 10,000 pounds (about $13,000).
And while one might think that Shafik must have had a loved one with a series of illnesses to be worth spending so much time in the hospital cafeteria, that's not really the case.

When Shafiq went to visit his father at the hospital after working the night shift in 2022, he started eating in the hospital cafeteria.
That's when he realized he could buy a meal of a baked potato, a drink, and a chocolate bar for less than $10. SWNS reported that the cafeteria food “satisfied nostalgia” for the food they used to eat at school.
Shafik said hospital food tastes better and is more expensive than food from fast food or fast-casual restaurants.
“If you were to ask me, 'Would you rather go to Nando's or go to the hospital for dinner?' I would go to the hospital,” Shafiq said.

Additionally, feeding people in hospitals is “one of the best ways to support the NHS,” Shafiq said, referring to Britain's National Health Service.
“The money I spend goes back into the NHS. We should all work together to make this place look thriving,” he said.

Mr Shafik pointed out that in the UK, the NHS funds health costs, but “money could be spent elsewhere to fund the NHS and help the NHS make money”.
Mr Shafik said he traveled around the UK and stopped in cafeterias at various hospitals.
He told the agency that the best meal he had ever had was at Great Ormond Street Hospital in central London. His favorite foods are chips, beans, and cheese.
