Tragic Incident in Lakewood, California
A man in Lakewood, California, reportedly took the lives of his wife and teenage daughter before ending his own life on Thursday morning, as per officials. The man, identified as 52-year-old Hector Lionel Alfaro, was found dead inside the family home.
The authorities received a call around 8 a.m. about a possible assault with a deadly weapon. The caller, a 19-year-old woman, stated that her father had shot a gun, and when the police arrived, she was outside and unharmed, though understandably shaken.
Upon investigating the home, law enforcement discovered Alfaro on the study floor with a gunshot to his upper body. His wife, 48-year-old Roxana Rodriguez, was found in their bedroom with a gunshot wound, while their 17-year-old daughter, Sienna, was also located in another room, deceased. All three family members were pronounced dead at the scene.
“According to the investigation, the daughter was asleep when she heard gunshots. Shortly after, Alfaro emerged near her with a gun and fired at her, but thankfully, she wasn’t hit. He then turned the weapon on himself right in front of her,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Two firearms were retrieved from the premises, although, as of now, a motive for this tragic event remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
In a heartfelt message on GoFundMe, Andrew, the husband of the couple’s other daughter, expressed sorrow over the loss, calling it an act of “unimaginable violence.” He mentioned that their surviving children are now facing a world without their beloved mother and sister.
A candlelight vigil held on Saturday brought together those who knew Sienna to remember her as a “ray of sunshine.” Hazel Fuhrman, a teammate from her soccer team, shared that Sienna had an uplifting spirit and a smile that could light up any room, highlighting how she made connections effortlessly, even with her shyness.
This heartbreaking situation underscores the impact of violence and loss, and while the investigation continues, the community mourns the lives cut short.
