A man in a Chucky mask, accused of frightening residents in Philadelphia, including a female jogger, has been arrested in Las Vegas after a two-week manhunt.
Zymire Hughes, 22, was taken into custody on Tuesday night in Nevada based on an out-of-state warrant linked to the alleged aggravated assault of a 40-year-old woman on August 12, as reported by US Marshals.
“Tonight marks the end of the fear instigated by one individual in the Philadelphia community,” stated Robert Clark from the US Marshals Service to the press.
Authorities located the fugitive in an apartment complex in Southeast Las Vegas shortly after 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
“Hughes thought he could hide behind a Chucky-style Halloween mask and evade law enforcement while terrorizing Philadelphia residents. He was mistaken,” Clark added.
Currently, Hughes is being detained at the Clark County Detention Center and will be extradited back to Pennsylvania.
The Philadelphia Police Department had issued a warrant for his arrest after he was reported to have stalked the City Hall area, scaring six people during a distressing 15-minute episode on August 12.
During this disturbing incident, Hughes, wearing the mask, allegedly chased a 40-year-old female jogger while making threats, which caused her to fall and sustain an injury around 5:30 a.m.
“Are you ready to die?” he reportedly asked the woman while filming the intimidation.
Hughes was visiting relatives in Philadelphia but fled the city on August 19, taking a convoluted route that included a flight from Trenton, NJ, to Orlando, FL.
He then caught another flight returning to Las Vegas, where he had recently moved in with his girlfriend. Authorities had been concerned he might have escaped to California or Nevada, as he had connections in both places.
