Brutal Attack on Bronx Girl Requires Surgery
A 12-year-old girl from the Bronx was seriously injured, prompting surgery to remove an “unknown sharp object” from her brain, according to prosecutors on Wednesday.
Joshua Burnside, 28, allegedly used a variety of household items, including a crochet needle, spoon, fork, plate, and tongs, to assault the girl on October 22. The criminal complaint revealed that he even slammed these items into her nose, leading to injuries affecting both of her eyes.
Newly released details surfaced as Bronx prosecutors charged Burnside with attempted murder. The girl’s mother, model Karisma Dabney, was also reportedly stabbed multiple times in the head and abdomen during the same incident.
This horrific event unfolded in an apartment on East 173rd Street. Dabney, desperately trying to save her daughter, kicked on a neighbor’s door when she was attacked, according to residents who witnessed the scene.
“She was kicking in my door and yelling, ‘Oh my god! Oh my god!'” a neighbor recounted. “When the police arrived, she told them she had been stabbed and that her children were still inside. [The suspect] didn’t let her back in.”
After his arrest, Burnside reportedly reacted by saying something like, “This is what you get for allowing him to come see the kids.” It’s a chilling twist, reflecting a mix of blame and regret.
The girl was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens, where she underwent surgery to address her injuries. The criminal complaint detailed that she suffered multiple stab wounds to her face and body from various sharp objects, resulting in significant bleeding and swelling around her eyes.
Dabney also had to undergo surgery for her stomach wounds. Following his arrest, Burnside was charged with a range of offenses, including assault and child endangerment, before being taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for unknown reasons.
Later, he was moved to Bellevue Hospital, where he was arraigned from his hospital bed. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault, weapons possession, and harassment. Currently, he’s being held without bail.
