Man Killed After Reportedly Shooting At Pennsylvania State Troopers Answering Call

Tragic Shooting of Pennsylvania State Police Officers

A Pennsylvania State Police officer was killed during a response to an incident in Thompson Township, Susquehanna County, on Thursday. Reports indicate that a male suspect opened fire on the responding troopers, leaving two of them injured.

Troopers Joseph Peretinski and William Jenkins were both severely hurt and were airlifted to a medical facility for urgent care. This information came from a recent press release from the Pennsylvania State Police.

The shooting unfolded in a rural area just after 11:00 am, as explained by state police Colonel Christopher Paris. Authorities have established perimeters around the scene, where the suspect, armed with a rifle, was reportedly uncooperative. Ultimately, the suspect was shot and killed during the incident.

Despite their injuries, the condition of the wounded troopers is stable, according to officials, who also noted that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the investigation is ongoing.

Paris indicated that the incident was triggered during welfare checks, mentioning that the troopers were ambushed once they arrived at the scene. Thankfully, one of the injured troopers was able to apply tourniquets on their colleagues, while another trooper stepped in to assist them.

One officer required surgery after sustaining injuries to his chest and back, while the other was hurt in the arm. Gunfire reportedly struck the troopers’ vehicle as well.

As of late Thursday afternoon, authorities had not disclosed the identity of the suspect.
