Tragic Fall at the Grand Canyon

This week, a 65-year-old man fell to his death after slipping off a cliff in the Grand Canyon, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office noted the incident occurred in the Guano Point area of Grand Canyon West.

According to a statement from the search and rescue team, they received a call around 2 p.m. on Thursday. “A 65-year-old man slipped and fell over the edge of a ravine and died,” they explained.

Rescue crews arrived on the scene and found the man about 40 feet down from the top of a scree. Rope technicians set up a lift system to recover the body for transport to the Mohave County Coroner’s Office.

The man’s identity has yet to be disclosed.

The search and rescue team shared images demonstrating their efforts, showing responders lowering baskets into the ravine for recovery.

A collaborative effort involved the Hualapai Tribal Police, Hualapai National Fire Department, and Grand Canyon West Patrol. They expressed appreciation for this assistance, offering their condolences to the victim’s family and asking for privacy during this difficult time.

This incident follows another fatal accident in September when a Colorado man lost his life after his vehicle plummeted over the edge of the Grand Canyon National Park.

The National Park Service (NPS) reported that rangers were called to the scene after a vehicle, occupied by one person, fell near the South Kaibab Trailhead.

Rangers quickly responded and recovered the body approximately 300 feet below the rim.

The NPS identified the man as Steven “Drew” Bradley, 27, from Federal Heights, Colorado. A helicopter was utilized to airlift his body to the edge for transport to the Coconino County coroner’s office.
