Man out on bond pursues ICE agents during operation at Texas tire store

Incident Involving ICE Agent and Local Man

Authorities report that a man detained in connection with a drug claim was undergoing surgery at his father’s tire shop when he encountered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Texas.

Sergio Olivarez, 22, allegedly confronted an ICE agent outside of Houston on Wednesday while he was at the tire shop for surgery. The officer’s office received emergency calls indicating that they were being pursued.

During this altercation, it’s reported that Olivarez caused damage to the ICE vehicle’s side mirrors and drove recklessly, endangering others on the road, according to the police. Olivarez, a U.S. citizen, was taken into custody and booked at the Harris County Jail. He is charged with criminal mischief and, as per Officer Mark Herman, is being held on a $500 bond.

Footage has emerged showing Olivarez after his arrest, where he appears to request to contact his lawyer. Interestingly, he mentions needing to check in on his probation.

Court records indicate that Olivarez has a history of felony drug possession charges. This incident is part of a broader trend, as reports show a significant rise in assaults against federal agents and immigrants, with attacks increasing by 700% since the beginning of the current administration. According to the Department of Homeland Security, there have been 79 recorded incidents in this timeframe, marking a notable increase compared to previous years.

Some federal agents have faced serious assaults, including incidents involving Molotov cocktails.
