Man Reportedly Fires at Border Patrol and is Later Hospitalized

Incident Involving U.S. Border Patrol Agent

A shooting incident occurred involving a U.S. Border Patrol agent near the Canadian border, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The agent returned fire and the suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The FBI reported that the shooting took place around 1 a.m. on February 22 in Pittsburgh, New Hampshire, a small town with approximately 800 residents. Located in rural New England, Pittsburgh borders the province of Quebec.

According to a spokesperson from the FBI, the individual suspected of firing at the Border Patrol agent was shot and killed in the early hours of that Sunday morning. Notably, the agent was unharmed during the incident.

While the FBI has not disclosed the name of the suspect, they confirmed that he was receiving medical care. The agency also withheld the identity of the agent involved but confirmed that he was not injured during the exchange.

Rodney Scott, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner, stated that the shooting occurred near a designated port of entry.

The ongoing investigation is being led by the FBI Boston Field Office in collaboration with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire. Initial information indicates that the suspect fired at agents, prompting them to respond with gunfire, as Scott mentioned in a public statement. He assured that CBP is fully cooperating with investigators.

No additional details have been provided about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The U.S. Attorney’s Office indicated that they would release further information should the suspect face charges.

Typically, the border crossing near Pittsburgh is relatively quiet, as noted by local news sources.
