Shooting Incident in Tulsa, Oklahoma

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting on Wednesday evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The deputies were dispatched to the 5900 block of South 59th West Street.

Upon arrival, they spoke with the homeowner who recounted that a man, later identified as 37-year-old Joshua Arena, had entered the property, threatened to steal his truck, and reportedly said he would kill the homeowner if he resisted.

The homeowner indicated to police that he turned to go back inside his home, but Arena followed him inside. In a moment of confrontation, the homeowner grabbed a baseball bat and struck Arena, leading to a struggle between them.

The altercation moved outside, where the homeowner reported that Arena charged at him once more. In response, the homeowner fired a shot, hitting Arena in the thigh.

After being taken to the hospital for treatment, Arena was booked into the Tulsa County Jail facing charges of attempted first-degree robbery, first-degree robbery, and assault and battery. Although Arena’s jail records do not list all charges, they indicate a total bail amount of $70,000 for the robbery-related offenses.

Many comments on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook post showed a mix of opinions regarding Arena’s actions. Some users noted that he was “lucky” to have survived the encounter.

  • One commenter suggested, “He’s pulling the trigger. He needs to start firing blanks.” They felt at least the homeowner managed to halt Arena’s aggressive behavior.

  • A different user asserted it was fortunate the firearm was not wielded by someone better trained.
  • One observer noted they’re seeing a lot of people wandering around the area, pointing out their dog’s unusual behavior towards strangers.
  • Another commented on Arena’s expression, indicating relief at being alive, and praised the homeowner for acting within legal boundaries.
  • Lastly, a user remarked that the homeowner dodged what could have been a fatal situation.
