Tennessee Crash Suspect’s Arrest Brings Mixed Emotions

After months of waiting, a man accused of causing a tragic head-on collision in Tennessee that resulted in a father’s death has been arrested. In an unsettling mug shot, James Brewington Jr., 61, can be seen sticking out his tongue.

Brewington turned himself in to the police last Thursday, nearly eight months after his vehicle allegedly collided with Dustin McLeod, 41, on Clarksville Pike. The Nashville police confirmed the details of the case.

Reports indicate that Brewington was driving southbound on Bovell Lane when he maneuvered around a car attempting a right turn, veering into oncoming traffic.

At that moment, McLeod was heading to help an older relative with Christmas lights when his Nissan Titan collided head-on with a Jeep Renegade, where his wife Ashley and their 8-year-old daughter, Dakota, were also passengers.

Tragically, McLeod was taken to the hospital but did not survive the crash.

While Ashley and Dakota made it through, they both endured serious injuries that required extensive recovery time.

Ashley expressed that hearing about Brewington’s arrest brought some sense of closure, though she found his disturbing mugshot “disgusting.” She mentioned, “I felt relieved at first, but also uncomfortable since I hadn’t seen his face until today.”

As the family copes with this profound loss, they also deal with the physical suffering caused by the accident. Ashley sustained multiple injuries including an open ankle fracture and a fractured kneecap, leading to months of rehabilitation.

Their daughter Dakota was not spared either, suffering several broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, and other serious injuries.

Ashley recalled the moments of the accident vividly: “All of a sudden, a car pulled out in front of us, and everything happened really fast. Then everything felt slow motion.” She remembered frantically trying to secure Dakota’s seatbelt and witnessing the horrific aftermath.

In the wake of the accident, Ashley has had to rent out her home to manage the mounting medical costs, stating, “We have struggled physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially.”

Brewington, who was previously hospitalized after the incident, has outstanding warrants for vehicular homicide, reckless conduct, reckless endangerment, and three counts of aggravated assault. It’s still unclear why he wasn’t arrested sooner.

Currently, he remains in custody, with bail set at $135,000.
